Maya Tucker

Maya Tucker is a cellist from South London, recently graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Jennifer Langridge and Edvard Pogossian.

Demonstrating versatility as a musician, Maya is continually eager to develop new skills and engage with innovative creative projects.

Maya was awarded the Mary Thecka Keiran Award at the RNCM and has presented numerous solo recitals, including performances in Manchester and at the Southport Midweek Music Series. She won the Emmanuel prize 2026 for solo performance, was a finalist in the Rotary Trotman Competition and has benefited from masterclasses with renowned artists such as Hannah Roberts, Victoria Simonson, and Miklós Perenyi through her studies at RNCM.

As a dedicated chamber musician, Maya has performed at esteemed venues including Wigmore Hall, Conway Hall, and the Buxton Pavilion Arts Centre. She is a co-founder and cellist of the Dovestone Quartet, who recently won the Nossek Prize and held the position of Artists in Residence at the Lake District Summer Music Festival.
Maya is also a regular cellist with the Valette Ensemble and recently participated in a Piano Quintet at Stoller Hall as part of the Empower conference, which celebrates women contributing to the evolution of music. Additionally, Maya enjoyed preparing for a recent tour as the cellist in the ensemble Nomad, collaborating with composer Ben Nobuto.

Maya has a strong interest in orchestral music and frequently performs as an extra player with the BBC Philharmonic and the Halle Orchestra. Following her involvement in the BBC Professional Experience Scheme last year, she has continued to perform with the orchestra, with a notable highlight being the 2025 and 2026 BBC Proms.

Maya is also committed to her local community. She recently organised an evening featuring folk and original music to raise funds for the Manchester Refugee Support Network. She has led workshops in schools and recently undertook a tour to Northumberland to raise funds for local church heating and to promote string instruments in local educational settings. 

Maya has a grade 8 certificate for both Piano and Cello.
