Emmeline Tovey
From Canada, emerging mezzo-soprano Emmeline Tovey strives to connect with audiences through authentic storytelling, no matter the project.
Emmeline began her Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2023, studying under Jane Irwin, and began studying with Samuel Queen in 2024.
In August 2024, Emmeline had the pleasure of singing the role of Bianca in Britten's Lucretia for British Youth Opera. She has also enjoyed other English operatic roles, such as Lady Bertram in Mansfield Park by Jonathan Dove, conducted by Kinza Tyrrell and directed by Brian Deedrick. While singing this role, she concurrently covered the role of Older Woman in Flight under the baton of Gordon Gerrard.
In 2022, Emmeline graduated with First Class Honours from her Bachelor of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Hilary Summers.
In August of that year, Emmeline participated in the chorus of Opera Kelowna's production of Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédict after winning a place in the Valley Opera Summer Intensive. She is a passionate and dedicated teacher, focused on encouraging her students to find their own voices through practical and enjoyable, science-based exercises that ensure vocal health.
Covering a variety of styles, from musical theatre and jazz to classical music and opera, Emmeline is confident in both performing and teaching nearly any style. She is committed to creating a safe and positive environment in which her students feel comfortable exploring their voices.
